At the start of every creative video project, I focus on building a clear vision before I ever touch a camera. I begin by immersing myself in the story behind the team, athlete, or moment I’m capturing. I research social media for inspiration, listen to music for tone, and pull visual references that match the energy I want to convey. I then like to share my ideas with the rest of my team to gain other thoughts and perspectives and ultimately finalize a creative direction. From there, I identify emotional beats and think through how pacing, sound design, and visuals can elevate the narrative. This early ideation stage helps me ensure every video feels intentional, high-energy, and tailored to the heartbeat of the sport.
Once I move into editing, my creative process centers on building clean, intentional timelines in Premiere Pro. I organize every project with labeled sequences and neatly structured layers so the story flows clearly from the very first frame. I pull in a wide range of assets I've gathered over time, including overlays, sound effects, LUTs, motion graphics, and much more, making sure each element serves a purpose in enhancing the energy and emotion of the piece. By keeping my timelines efficient and my assets curated, I’m able to craft videos that feel polished, dynamic, and built to highlight the raw intensity of the piece.
One valuable skill I've gained during my time in college that really elevates a video is set design. I start by choosing lighting setups, backdrops, and props that reinforce the team’s brand. Whether that’s dramatic shadows, bold color washes, or textured environments that add depth on camera, I make sure every choice is intentional to fit the piece. I pay close attention to spacing, angles, and how each element interacts with the athlete to make sure the frame feels powerful and intentional. By crafting sets that elevate the mood and visual style from the start, I’m able to capture intro shots that feel cinematic, memorable, and rooted in the team’s personality.
